Milford – Mrs. Edna L. (Mitchell) Malloy, of Milford, formerly of Waltham, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at her home She was 88.

Edna was born in Waltham on July 6, 1922, a daughter of the late Edward and Ella (Silver) Mitchell, and had been a Waltham resident before moving to Milford several years ago. She was a graduate of Waltham High School and had competed in track and was a 100 yard dash champion and also competed in Amateur Athletic Union events.

She always enjoyed being around her family and grandchildren and also had a passion for music. Edna was a co-owner of High Street Variety in Waltham for many years that she operated with her late husband Charles. B. Malloy who passed away on October 3rd, 2009. Their little store became a hugely popular submarine sandwich shop and she worked there until her retirement. After that Charlie and Edna moved to Milford where they made their home with their daughter Margie and son-in-law Richard Young.

She leaves her children and their spouses, Judith and Jack O’Brien of South Dennis, Charlene and Richard Stolowski of Waltham, Margie and Richard Young, Michael and Kathy Malloy and Kevin and Nancy Malloy, all of Milford; her daughters-in-law, Cleo Goncalves Malloy and Constance McLeod Malloy; her adoring grandchildren, Brendon Malloy, Julie Robbins, Tim and Terry Malloy, John O’Brien, Kate Cuggino, Janet Stolowski, Joann Phillips, Chris Stolowski, Amy and Justine Young, Michael, Meagan, Molly, Kevin and Stephen Malloy; and Danny and Du Goncalves; her brother, Charles Mitchell of Tewksbury; 17 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and dear friends at Mass Eye and Ear where she received treatments over the past twenty years.

Edna was also the mother of the late Bernard R. Malloy and sister of the late Laura, Andrew, Francis, and Robert Mitchell, and Ruth Brousseau.

Family and friends will honor and remember Edna’s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Friday, October 22nd, from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary’s Church, 133 School Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.

Memorial donations may be made to the Mass. Eye and Ear Infirmary, 243 Charles Street, Boston, MA 02114.
