Edna N. Wencis

Waltham – Mrs. Edna N. (Nowick) Wencis of Waltham died Wednesday, November 9, 2011 in the Epoch Nursing Home in Weston. She was 95. Mrs. Wencis was born in Cambridge on March 21, 1916, a daughter of the late Joseph and Fabiana (Szluinska) Nowick.

Edna was the bookstore manager at Brandeis University for over twenty years and had also worked in the accounts payable department.

An avid gardner, Edna was proud of her Polish heritage and loved to travel to Poland and Europe with her late husband, Peter C. Wencis, who died on December 17, 1979.

She is survived by her children, Dr. Leonard P. Wencis of Waltham and Janet Svenson and her husband, Alfred, of Martinsburg, West Virginia; her grandchildren, Petra Groat and Alrik Svenson, her great grandchild, Michael Groat, and many nieces and nephews.

Edna was also the sister of the late Joseph Nowick, Jr., Lillian Nogelo, Matilda Palmer, and Wanda Lemieux.

Family and friends will honor and remember Edna's life by gathering for her calling hours on Monday, November 14th, from 2-4 and 6-8 pm in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street, (Rte. 20), Waltham and again at 8 am on Tuesday before leaving in procession to Saint Mary's Church, 133 School Street, Waltham, where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 am. Burial will follow in Saint Mary's Cemetery in Holliston.
