Eddie Blakely will be remembered for his ever-present smile, ability to engage anyone, being a fantastic story teller and the life of the party. He had a contagious and affable personality. And for those within the music and band circles in the Waltham area and beyond…he was hands down one of the best drummers! He absolutely loved music in various genres and played with several local bands.
His home in Waltham was his oasis and he was forever working in the yard and around the house. He built a music room in the basement that was always open to friends for gathering. Ed also loved fishing in various waters locally and beyond.
Edward D. Blakely Jr. was born March 30, 1965, in Waltham a son of Beverly (Carmichael) Blakely and the late Edward D. Blakely Sr. A graduate of Waltham High School with the class of 1983 he later married Watertown native Jennifer L. Marqus on March 24, 2001, in Saint Luke's Church in Belmont. He worked as a glazier with Union Local 1044 in Boston for many years.
Eddie died on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, in Care Dimensions Hospice Residence in Lincoln after a battle with lung cancer. He was 57.
In addition to his wife of 21 years, Jennifer, he leaves their son, Brenden E. Blakely; his mother, Beverly Blakely, all of Waltham; his siblings, Kerry Martin (Gary) of Lancaster, Kentucky, David and Michael Blakely, both of Waltham; his mother-in-law, Rosemarie (Cannistraro) Marqus (late William) of Watertown; his sister-in-law, Stephanie Stratton (Michael) of Hingham; nieces and nephews, Enda Martin, Michael and Matthew Stratton; aunts, uncles and cousins.
Family and friends will honor and remember Ed's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20) on Sunday, October 30th from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and again at 9:30 a.m. on Monday before leaving in procession to Saint Jude Church, 147 Main Street, Waltham where his funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
