Waltham – Mr. Edward M. Carmel, of Waltham, died Friday, December 30, 2011 at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge. He was 72.
Ed was born on July 19, 1939 in Putnam, Connecticut, a son of the late Leon and Margaret (Quinn) Carmel, and had lived most of his life in Waltham.
After graduating Waltham High School in 1957 he enlisted in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in 1962. Ed was an electrician and had worked at Keyes Electric Company, Mount Auburn Hospital and for many years was self-employed. He loved fresh water fishing and spent as much time as he could casting away, especially at Sebago Lake and at Moosehead Lake, both in Maine and at Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire.
He is survived by his loving wife Barbara L. 'Lee' (Douglas) (Edwards) Carmel; his step-children Mark A. Edwards of Tamarac, Florida, James D. Edwards and his wife, Jane, of Londonderry, New Hampshire, Bobby G. Edwards and his wife, Karen, of Burlington and Laura L. Vachon and her husband, Michael, of Mashpee; his brother, Norman Carmel of Manchester, New Hampshire; 12 step-grandchildren, 8 step-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Ed was also a brother of the late Richard Carmel, Leon Carmel and Maureen Quill.
Family and friends will honor and remember Ed's life by gathering to visit at 10 a.m. on Friday morning, January 6th, in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham where his funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
