Mr. Edward Gillespie, of Framingham, formerly of Waltham, died Sunday, June 30, 2024 in Metrowest Medical Center in Framingham. He was 92.
Ed was born in Donegal, Ireland on June 7, 1932 a son of the late Patrick and Mary (McNeely) Gillespie. Raised and educated in Ireland he immigrated to the United States in 1950, later settling in Waltham and moved to Framingham twenty-six years ago.
He earned his bachelor’s degree and worked as an electrical engineer for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts at M.C.I. Concord for many years before retiring.
Social and affable by nature he was enjoyed friendships and time spent at the Irish Cultural Center in Canton where he and his late wife, Mary would dance regularly. He was also a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians - Division 14, Watertown. He loved working in his yard and tending to his flower gardens, a good card or checkers game and time spent in Wareham and along the Cape Cod Canal. He treasured his role as ‘Grampy’ and happily chauffeured his grandchildren to their various destinations.
Beloved husband of the late Mary A. (Broderick) Gillespie he leaves his children, Ann M. Filippone (Jay) of Ashland, Kathy C. Pierce (Colin) of Shrewsbury and Jerry Gillespie (Sarah) of Sutton; his grandchildren, Kelli and Katelyn Filippone, Anneka and Aileen Gillespie and Declan and Sloane Pierce; a brother, Hugh Gillespie of England; and many nieces, nephews and their families.
Family and friends will honor and remember Edward's life by gathering for visitation in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham, on Wednesday morning, July 3rd from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. before leaving in procession to Saint Mary's Church, 133 School Street, Waltham, where his Funeral Mass will celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
