West Yarmouth – Mr. Edward J. Keane, 79, of West Yarmouth, formerly of Waltham, died May 19, 2008 surrounded by his family, at his home on Cape Cod after a year long fight against multiple myeloma. "Ducky" Keane, as he was known to his friends, was born and raised in Waltham before moving to West Yarmouth in 1990. He worked as a machinist and general supervisor at the Polaroid Corporation before his retirement. Mr. Keane was a stand out basketball player at Waltham High School, having been named to the Suburban League All-Star Team in 1947. He was also elected as a member of the Waltham Softball Hall of Fame. He had been a former member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge No. 1018, in Waltham and the Ancient Order of Hibernians and the Retired Men's Club, both on Cape Cod. Mr. Keane is survived by his wife, Doris E. (LeMay) Keane, his sons, Paul E. "Ducky" Keane and his wife, Patricia, of Lexington and David R. "Ducky" Keane and his wife, Paula, of Easton; his grandchildren, Jeffrey, Stephen and Erica of Easton and Bryan of Lexington; several nieces and a nephew. He was the son of the late Mary E. (Newton) Keane and brother of the late Joseph, John and Thomas Frazier. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Friday at 9 a.m. from The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham followed by a Funeral Mass in Saint Mary's Church, 133 School Street, Waltham at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society Food Pantry, St. Francis Xavier Church, 347 South Street, Hyannis, MA 02601, VNA Hospice of Cape Cod, 434 Route 134, Suite G-1, South Dennis, MA 02660 or to Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, 383 Main Avenue, 5th Fl., Norwalk, CT 06851.
