Mr. Edward F. Martz III, of North Kingston, Rhode Island passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2020. He was 67 years old.
Ed was born in New Jersey on November 19, 1952, the son of Marie H. Martz and the late Edward F. Martz, Jr. He was raised in Morristown, New Jersey and graduated from both Seton Hall Prep and Seton Hall University. He then went to earn his master's degree from the University of Rhode Island. Ed quickly grew to consider Rhode Island his home and he had been a resident ever since. He was a chemistry professor at Central Connecticut State University and Manchester Community College; teaching was a job he loved. In online reviews his students attested to his sense of humor, genuine care for their success and availability to help after hours to make sure they understood the science he so loved.
Ed liked to stay busy and enjoyed biking, camping, volleyball, cooking, baking, pot luck dinners, poker with the guys, and even coached softball for a time. His hobbies included blogging, aviation history, anything sci-fi, and he was a huge baseball fan; his favorite team being the L.A. Dodgers.
He is survived by his mother, Marie H. Martz of Long Valley, NJ; his siblings, James Martz of Worcester, NY, William Martz of Worcester, NY, Marie Martz of Morristown, NJ, Suzanne Harrison of Mt. Olive, NJ, Laura Martz of Warren, Maine and Jane Martz of Long Valley, NJ.
He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and dear friends too numerous to be named.
A Celebration of Ed's Life will be announced at a later date.
