Watertown Mr. Edward S. Phelan, of Watertown, died Thursday, October 25, 2007 at North Memorial Hosptial in Robbinsdale, Minnesota. He was 88. Born in Calais Maine, a son of the late Leo and Clara (Abbott) Phelan, Edward worked for over thirty years for H.P. Hood Company until his retirement. For the majority of his employment with H.P. Hood, Edward was a milkman with his milk routes being primarily in the Newton area. He was well known and well liked by his customers. In his final years of employment at H.P. Hood he was a member of the Production Staff in the Charlestown Facility. Edward was a member of the H.P. Hood and Sons Quarter Century Club and attended their annual reunions. Following his retirement, he worked for several years for Clay Chevrolet in Newton. Edward was an avid walker, scrabble player and a former volunteer at the Watertown Public Library. He was a World War II veteran serving with the United States Army. Edward leaves his children, Kenneth E. Phelan and his wife, Phyllis, of Twin Cities, Minnesota, R. Marie Phelan of Waltham and Rhonda M. Lally of Marlborough; his grandchildren, Rayna Bailey, Leeann Lally and Kelly Beckler; his great-grandchildren, Johnathan, Natalie and Rita; one brother, Paul Phelan of Westbrook, Maine; two sisters, Lois Downing of Houlton, Maine and Jean Cavanagh of Manchester, New Hampshire and many nieces and nephews. Edward was the husband of the late Rita M. (Bryant) and was also a brother of the late Harold and Burton Phelan Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday from The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham followed by a Funeral Mass in Our Lady Help of Christians Church, 573 Washington Street, Newton at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham. Visiting hours are Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m.
