Mr. Edward N. Smith, of Brooksby Village, Peabody, a former longtime Waltham resident, died Monday, September 11, 2006 after a lengthy illness. He was 92. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dorothy L. (Henry) Smith; his children, Lorraine L. Smith of Chelmsford, Virginia L. Smith and her husband John Marotto of Wayland, Marjorie J. Talacko and her husband, Vaclav of Georgetown and Robert L. Smith, of South Royalton, Vermont; three grandchildren, Michael Marotto and his wife Emily of San Luis Obispo, California, Alexandra Talacko of Georgetown and Justina Talacko of Tampa, Florida; and nephew, Wayne N. Henry and his wife Linda of Waltham. He was born, raised and educated in Boston, son of the late Ralph and Minnie (Briggs) Smith and lived much of his life in Waltham before retiring to the community at Brooksby Village in 2005. He and his wife wintered in Ellenton, Florida for over twenty years. Mr. Smith earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Tufts University. He worked as a structural and civil engineer for several Boston area firms, retiring in 1985 at the age of 71. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Waltham and the Waltham Historical Society. Funeral services will be held on Monday September 18th, at 11 a.m. in Christ Episcopal Church, 750 Main Street, Waltham. Burial will be private. Visiting hours will be held Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham.
