Woburn – Mrs. Edwina C. (Wilkie) Cox, of Woburn, formerly of Waltham, died Thursday, January 16, 2014 in Maristhill Nursing Home, Waltham. She was 90. Mrs. Cox was born in Brighton on December 26, 1923, a daughter of the late Robert and Edwina (Pennell) Wilkie.
Edwina lived in Waltham for many years and was a buyer for thirty years at Grover Cronin's Department Store on Moody Street in Waltham. She married her high school sweetheart, Don, on October 9, 1942 just prior to his shipping out with the United States Air Corps to serve in Europe during World War II. Edwina was very active in the Ladies Sodality of Saint Jude Parish and with the PTA at the Warrendale School in Waltham.
She loved her family, her lifelong friends who met every Monday night for more than seventy years, vacations at the Cape, Sunday's roast beef dinners, and especially spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Edwina was the wife of the late R. Donald Cox, Sr. and is survived by her children, R. Donald Cox, Jr. and his wife, Nancy, of Arlington, Judith P. Byron and her husband, Dennis, of Milford, and Lynda J. Cox of Wakefield; her grandchildren, Kelley St. Coeur, Eileen Radcliffe, Shauna Downey, Maura LaPlante, and Ryan Cox; her brothers, Robert Wilkie and his wife, LaDonna of Calif., Richard Wilkie and his wife, Joan and Donald Wilkie and his late wife, Diane, all of Texas; her longtime companion, Paul Trombley of Waltham; thirteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Edwina's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Tuesday, January 21st from 5 to 8 p.m. and again at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Jude Church, 147 Main Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
