Gloucester – Mrs. Eilene A. (Mulcahy) Blanchard, of Gloucester, formerly of Waltham, died August 14, 2019. She was 96.
Eilene was born in Watham on March 18, 1923, one of six children of the late Paul M. and Helen M. (Donnelly) Mulcahy. Raised in Waltham, Eilene was a graduate of Saint Mary's High School. She went on to continue her education at Saint Vincent Hospital School of Nursing in Worcester where she obtained her degree in 1944.
With her kind nature and gentle touch, her life's work came almost second nature. For many years Eilene cared for patients at Campion Center, Boston College and at Reservoir Nursing Home in Waltham. She was also a member of the Massachusetts Association of Registered Nurses.
Raised in Waltham, Eilene moved to Lincoln in 1972 where she lived for twenty-six years. Following her return to Waltham in 1998 she became active at the Waltham Senior Center. She moved to Gloucester in 2011.
Eilene was the wife of the late Charles E. Blanchard; mother of the late Charles E. Blanchard, Jr. and Paul M. Blanchard and a sister of the late Robert P., Bernard P., and Martha F. Mulcahy, Helen E. Pendleton and Mary M. Naughton.
She leaves her children, John E. Blanchard (Maria) of Reading, Ellen M. Castellano (Richard) of Amherst, New Hampshire, Eilene T. 'Deanie' Flynn of Sandwich, Carol T. Blanchard (Joseph Mountain) of Gloucester and Mary E. Zichella (Paul) of New Ipswich, New Hampshire; her daughter-in-law, Patricia Blanchard of Lunenburg; fourteen grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends with honor and remember Eilene's life by gathering to visit in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rt. 20), Waltham, at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, August 21st before leaving in procession to Saint Jude Church, 147 Main Street, Waltham, where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
