Waltham – Mrs. Elaine M. (Cotone) Gentile, of Waltham, died Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. She was 86.
Elaine was born in Brighton on June 17, 1935, a daughter of the late Thomas and Isabel Angelina (Carceo) Cotone and was raised in Watertown. She was a 1954 graduate of Watertown High School and a year later obtained her beautician's license. Elaine established Eric's Hairdressing Studio on Warren Street in Waltham where she worked for sixty-five years before the pandemic forced the studio to close in March, 2020.
She enjoyed traveling and counted trips to Hawaii and to Italy among her favorite destinations. Elaine will long be remembered as being warm, loving, kind and generous. She was beloved by family, friends and customers alike.
Elaine was the beloved wife of the late Anthony J. Gentile and sister of the late Beverly A. Sampson.
She leaves her brother-in-law, George Sampson of Newton; her nephews, Brad Sampson of Wayland, Dana Sampson of Orlando, Florida and Todd Sampson and his wife, Leslie Burke, of Melrose and her grandnieces and grandnephew, Madison and Sage Sampson and Avery Hill.
Family and friends will honor and remember Elaine's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Sunday, January 23rd from 2 to 5 p.m. and again at 8 a.m. Monday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Luke's Church, 132 Lexington Street, Belmont where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Newton Cemetery.
A reception and a celebration of Elaine's life will also be held at a later date.
