Waltham – Mrs. Eleanor J. (Kilcup) Brodrick, of Waltham, died Thursday, February 26, 2015 at her home. She was 94.
Eleanor was born in Newton on May 9, 1920, a daughter of the late Clifford and Jennie (Backman) Kilcup, and had been a lifelong resident of Waltham. She was a 1937 graduate of Waltham High School and earned a secretarial certificate from Chandler Business School in Boston.
Until her retirement Eleanor worked for more than twenty years at Paino Associates in Waltham. She was a longtime member of the Kappa Phi Sorority and the Rainbow Girls.
She was a lifelong member of First Lutheran Church. Her ancestors, the Backman's, were among the founding members of the Lutheran congregation in Waltham. Eleanor took great delight caring for her husband, her children, her grandchilden and her home. She was a terrific seamstress and cook who always made sure a well prepared meal ended with a delicious dessert.
Eleanor was a voracious reader who enjoyed the simplest pleasures that life had to offer. She could often be found enjoying the warmth of the summer sun sitting in her yard or at the beach in York, Maine. She loved all things Disney, spending her 90th and 92nd birthdays in the Magic Kingdom.
The wife of the late Merton L. Brodrick, she leaves her children, Janice E. Castellano and her husband, John, Nancy E. Brodrick and Sarah L. Brodrick, all of Waltham; her grandchildren, Adria and Leah Castellano and her great-grandchildren, JD and Delsi Castellano.
Eleanor was also the mother of the late Clifford A. Brodrick.
Family and friends will honor and remember Eleanor's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Tuesday, March 3rd from 4 to 8 p.m. and again on Wednesday morning in First Lutheran Church, cor. of Weston and Eddy Sts., Waltham where her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Burial will be private.
