Eleanor Doris Bourgeois, 94, of Milford, DE, formally of Waltham, MA passed away peacefully on October 24, 2018 under the care of Vitas Hospice at Milford Memorial Hospital, Delaware.
Doris was born July 2, 1924 in Waltham, daughter of Joseph & Angelina (Murphy) Smith.
Doris is preceded in death by her husband, Vincent. They were married 55 years and had one daughter, Caren Hubler of Harbeson, DE formerly of Orlando, FL.
In addition to her parents and husband, Doris is preceded in death by her sisters Rosalie Sweeney and Mary Gardner, her brothers James Smith and John Smith as well as her son-in-law, William Hubler, and her nephew, Donald Meyer.
She is survived by Caren Hubler and Maureen Meyer, her granddaughter, Suzanne Parsons and husband, Steve, niece, Michelle Richardson and husband, Douglas and their children, Noah, Rosalie, & Parker as well as numerous other nieces, nephews, and friends.
After graduating from Saint Mary's High School in Waltham Doris worked at the Waltham Shoe Factory before getting married. Doris became one of the first Police Women in Waltham in 1959. Later she worked at Metropolitan State Hospital as a secretary before taking a job at Veterans Services for the City of Waltham until she retired. After retiring she volunteered for the American Cancer Society driving patients to their cancer treatments and delivering Meals on Wheels. In her spare time, she loved to read and knit. She belonged to a knitting club with friends for many years. She will be remembered as a loving Wife, Mother, Sister, Aunt and Friend.
Family and friends will honor and remember Doris' life by gathering to visit on Saturday, November 3rd from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street, (Rte. 20), Waltham before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
