Eleanor M. (Landini) Gibson, of Waltham, died on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge. She was 86.
Eleanor was born in Chicago, Illinois on November 19, 1937, a daughter of the late Fred and Margaret (DiNicola) Landini. She had lived in Cambridge before moving to Waltham fifty years ago.
For years she worked as an assistant manager at Waltham Hospital’s credit union where she made many lifelong friends. Eleanor was also a longtime volunteer for the Meals on Wheels program at the Waltham Senior Center and served on the board of directors of the Friends of the Waltham Senior Citizens.
She and her family spent many happy vacations at White Horse Beach in Plymouth and on trips to Glace Bay, Nova Scotia and to visit with family in South Carolina.
She will long be remembered for her quiet kindness and genuine concern for her family, her friends and the community.
The wife of the late Charles E. Gibson († July 25, 2023), she leaves her son, Charles E. Gibson, II (Deborah) of Daniel Island, South Carolina; her grandchildren, Brian P. Wenckus, Jennifer M. Brown, Kristen E. Garrison, John M. Gibson and Daniel J. Gibson; her great-grandchildren, Hailey, McKayla and Joseph Brown, Flynn, Nolan and Callie Garrison and Zane and Carleigh Gibson; her daughter-in-law, Evelyn Gibson and several nieces, nephews and their families.
Eleanor was also the mother of the late U.S. Capital Police Detective John M. Gibson and Karen M. Baer and the sister of the late Fred Landini.
Family and friends will honor and remember Eleanor’s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Monday, August 5th from 4 to 7 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Tuesday morning, August 6th before leaving in procession to Sacred Heart Church, 311 River Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at 1:15 p.m.
