Greenfield – Mrs. Eleanor M. (Egan) Leonard, of Greenfield, formerly of Needham, died Thursday, September 22, 2011 at her home. She was 95.
Eleanor was born in Boston on November 14, 1915, a daughter of the late William and Madeleine (McPike) Egan. She and her family lived in Newton where her children grew up and in Needham in her retirement years. The family spent many happy summers at their cottage in the Green Harbor section of Marshfield.
She was a well liked secretary at the John Ward Elementary school in Newton for 14 years. Eleanor loved playing Bridge & Cribbage and was an avid reader and fan of all the Boston sports teams.
Her husband of 44 years, Albert F. "Albie" Leonard died in 1983 and her oldest son, Paul A. Leonard died in 2002.
Eleanor leaves her children, Father Bill Leonard of Waltham, Barbara Bodenstein and her husband David of Greenfield, with whom she made her home for the past three years, Jill Jones of Melrose and Jane Novak of Marshfield; her daughter-in-law, Mary Ellen Leonard of Marlboro; her grandchildren, Craig Bodenstein and his wife, Julie, of Northfield, Eric Bodenstein of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Kerri Bodenstein of Framingham, Bradley Bodenstein of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Brian Leonard and his wife, Jane, of Marlboro, Patrick Leonard and his wife, Mieka, of Boston, Aimee Bollentin and her husband, Joe, of Kingston, Rhode Island, Christopher Jones and his wife, Darlene, of Plymouth, Kim Jones and her spouse, Rosalie, of Marshfield, Kristen Oberg and her husband, Billy, of Plymouth, and Trish and Stacy Novak both of Green Harbor; 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Madeleine Kenny and Raymond Egan.
At Eleanor's request her body was donated to Harvard Medical School.
Family and friends will honor and remember Eleanor's life by gathering to visit in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Friday, September 30th, from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning in Saint Jude Church, 147 Main Street, Waltham when her Funeral Mass will be celebrated.
