Fitchburg – Eleanor M. Mahoney, of Fitchburg, formerly of Waltham, died Monday, January 17, 2011 at Holy Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Worcester. She was 63.
Eleanor was born in Waltham on April 20, 1947, a daughter of the late Paul J. and Eleanor J. (Mogan) Mahoney, and had lived in Fitchburg for the past twenty years. She was a graduate of Saint Mary’s High School in Waltham and the College of St. Rose in Albany, New York. Additionally, Eleanor earned several master degrees during her career. Eleanor had worked for the past ten years as a special education teacher at the Mary Rowlandson Elementary School in Lancaster. She had also worked for many years at the Dr. Franklin Perkins School in Lancaster and in her early career worked for the Department of Defense as a teacher in the Philippines and Japan.
The most important part of her life was to help others and doing volunteer work. She particularly enjoyed doing just that at Wheat Community Services in Clinton where she had been the current president. Eleanor also enjoyed being at Hampton Beach and traveling worldwide
She leaves her daughter, Kim H. Seek and her husband, Rinh Tran, of Worcester; her grandchildren, Paul, Peter, and Pamela and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Eleanor was also the sister of the late Paul J. Mahoney, Jr.
Family and friends will honor and remember Eleanor’s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street, (Rte.20), Waltham on Friday, January 21, from 4 to 7 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary’s Church, 133 School Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham
