Eleanor M. (Tambascio) Morrissey, of Waltham, died Tuesday, March 14, 2023 in Newton-Wellesley Hospital after an illness. She was 84.
Eleanor was born on April 29, 1938 in Newton a daughter of the late Nicholas and Delina (DeStefano) Tambascio. A graduate of Our Lady’s High School in Newton with the class of 1956 she then earned her Associates degree from Mass Bay Community College in Wellesley.
In addition to raising her four children, she worked over seventeen years as an administrative assistant to the president of Houghton-Mifflin Publishing Company in Wilmington, retiring in 2004.
A longtime parishioner of Our Lady’s Parish in Waltham she often volunteered at the church. She also kept active and fit at Planet Fitness in Waltham and enjoyed both tennis and golf. A talented baker Eleanor also kept busy knitting and enjoyed reading.
Eleanor was predeceased by her grandsons, Andrew Morrissey and Christopher R. Morrissey and her brother, Gene Tambascio.
She leaves her children, David C. Morrissey of Nashville, Tennessee, Kevin C. Morrissey Sr. (Gail) of Foxborough, Jennifer J. Towle (David) of Waltham, Jeffrey A. Morrissey (Diana) of Framingham; her grandchildren, Matthew, Michael, Meghan Morris (Nick), Kevin, Sean Morrissey (Nicole); her great-grandchildren, Henry, Mickey, Mary and Elliette; her sister-in-law Louise Tambascio of Binghamton, New York; nieces & nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Eleanor’s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Sunday, March 19th from 3 to 6 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Monday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
