Waltham – Mrs. Eleanor A. (Torpey) St. Germain, of Waltham, died Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at Newton Healthcare Center. She was 86. Eleanor was born in Worcester on December 2, 1922, a daughter of the late Edward R. and Elizabeth (Maguire) Torpey, and had lived in Waltham since 1948. Until her retirement she worked as a secretary for over thirty years for WIC Insurance Company in Waltham. She was a graduate of Commerce High School in Worcester, Class of 1941, where she was vice-president of her class. In her spare time Eleanor was passionate about music, piano playing and ballroom dancing. She loved playing tennis and played competitively in leagues into her late 70's. She also cherished beach walks at her summer home at Wells Beach, Maine. Eleanor leaves her husband of sixty-one years, James N. St. Germain; her children, Joanne S. Delaney and her husband, Joseph L. Delaney, III, of Milton and Jean M. Lake and her husband, Larry P. Gianakis, of Leominster; her grandchildren, Jay Delaney, Michael Delaney, Elizabeth Delaney, James Lake and Kristin Lake. She was the sister of the late Robert Torpey Family and friends will honor and remember Eleanor's life by gathering for calling hours at The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte.20), Waltham on Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. and again at 9:30 a.m. on Monday morning before leaving in procession to Corpus Christi Church, 41 Ash Street, Auburndale where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham. Memorial donations may be made to Care Alternatives Hospice, 181 Cedar Hill Road, Marlborough, MA 01752.
