Waltham – Mrs. Eleanor M. (McCoole) Sullivan, of Waltham, died Friday, October 17, 2014 at Lexington Health Care Center. She was 89.
Eleanor was born in Dorchester on December 5, 1924, a daughter of the late John P. and Elizabeth J. (Driscoll) McCoole. She grew up in various parts of Boston and eventually her family settled in Milton. Eleanor was a graduate of Saint Gregory High School in Dorchester.
In 1955 she married Belmont native John J. Sullivan, Jr. and two years later the couple moved to Waltham. They enjoyed thirty-five years of marriage until John's death on November 10, 1990.
In her later years, after her husband's death Eleanor became a Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady's Church in Waltham, a parish she was very active in. She did an immense amout of volunteer work helping to heal the sick, including daily visits to Maristhill Nursing Home in Waltham.
In addition Eleanor was able to enjoy traveling extensively around the globe over the years with friends, and most recently locally to the Cape and Maine with family.
She leaves her children, John J. Sullivan, III of Waltham and Maureen E. Sullivan of Lincoln; her brothers, John McCoole of Westborough and Alfred E. McCoole of Mashpee and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Eleanor's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Tuesday, October 21st from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Wednesday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
