Waltham – Mrs. Elizabeth M. 'Betty' (Moffitt) Ayotte, of Waltham, died Sunday, August 28, 2011 in her home. She was 87.
Betty was born in Boston on October 12, 1923, a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Dolan) Moffitt. She was raised in Brighton and had been a Waltham resident for more than fifty years. During World War II she worked with her sister Kaye at the Watertown Arsenal. She and Kaye were traveling companions for years, touring England and Ireland and all of the notable regions of the United States.
After the war she went to work for the Raytheon Corporation and after her children were born she left Raytheon and worked part-time for years as a waitress at the Weston Golf Club. Betty was also an active member of the North Waltham Seniors.
She leaves her husband of fifty-seven years, Philip J. Ayotte, Sr.; her children, Kevin Ayotte and his wife, Theresa, of Newbury, Stephen M. Ayotte and his wife, Denise, of Hopkinton, William J. Ayotte and his wife, Heidi, of Waltham and Philip J. Ayotte, Jr. and his wife, Mary, of Framingham; her grandchildren, Dolan, Natalie, Shane, Kenneth and Kimberly Ayotte, and her brother, John T. Moffitt of Northboro.
Betty was also the sister of the late Catherine 'Kaye' Moffitt and Frank Moffitt.
Family and friends will honor and remember Betty's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Wednesday, August 31st, from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Thursday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Saint Joseph's Cemetery, West Roxbury.
