Elizabeth A. 'Betty' (Greeley) Carberry, of Harwich, formerly of Waltham, died Friday, June 10, 2022. She was 90.
She was born on September 14, 1931, in Newton, daughter of the late Joseph and Helena (Cavanaugh) Greeley. Raised in Newton she was a graduate of Our Lady's High School in Newton. She married John H. 'Jack' Carberry in Our Lady Help of Christians Church in August 1957. They lived in Waltham since 1962 and retirement moved them permanently to their summer home in Harwich in 1993. They also spent many happy winters in Sun City Center, Florida. Jack and Betty celebrated 60 years of marriage before his death in 2017.
After staying at home to raise her five children she returned to work and was a teacher's aide at the Whittemore School in Waltham. She was an active grandmother in helping to raise her nine grandchildren. She loved working in her yard at the Cape, membership and friendships from the Red Hat Society on the Cape, volunteering at the thrift store in Harwich, and dancing.
In addition to her husband, she is predeceased by siblings Joseph, William, and John Greeley.
Betty leaves her children, John J. 'Jack' Carberry (Megan Scobie) of Newton, Robert M. Carberry (Mary Yamazaki-Carberry) of Norton, James M. and Edward S. Carberry, both of Waltham, and Karen A. Serdy (Robert) of Sandwich; grandmother of Michael and Keiko Carberry, Danielle Preston (Neil), Joshua Carberry, Sara, Matthew and Lauren Serdy, Elizabeth and Patrick Carberry; sister of Richard Greeley of Burlington, Michael Greeley (Joanne), Carol Scaltreto, Virginia Greeley all of Waltham, Mary Kane of Harwich; sister-in-law of Carol Greeley of Newton, Mary Lou Arsenault of Burlington, and Anne Prince of Malden; and many nieces & nephews.
Family and friends will honor Betty's life by gathering for a calling hour on Thursday, June 16, from 9:00 - 10:15 a.m. in Our Lady Help of Christians Church, 573 Washington Street, NEWTON, followed by her funeral Mass celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
