Waltham – Ms. Elizabeth D. Castner, of Waltham, died Sunday, November 8, 2015 at the Leland Home in Waltham. She was 96.
Elizabeth was born on February 27, 1919 in Waltham a daughter of the late Ervin and Esther (Jones) Castner. She was born and raised in Waltham, and was a graduate of Waltham High School. She was a Simmons College graduate, and spent the next 50 years working at the Waltham Public Library. After her retirement from the library, Elizabeth continued to take graduate classes at Harvard University. She even published her first book, Tercentennial History of The First Parish in Waltham, Massachusetts.
She was a longtime member of the First Parish Unitarian Church in Waltham, and enjoyed pursuing genealogy in her free time.
She leaves her sister, Margaret Smeyak of Oviedo, Florida, her niece Faith Kindness of South Deerfield, and her nephews Richard Dickhaut and his wife Pat of New Mexico, David Dickhaut and his wife Joie of North Carolina, and Donald Dickhaut and his wife Rhonda of Florida.
Family and friends will honor and remember Elizabeth's life by gathering on Tuesday, November 17th, at 11 a.m. in the Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20) Waltham , where her Funeral Service will be held at noon. Burial will follow in Grove Hill Cemetery, Waltham.
