Cambridge - Mrs. Elizabeth Katherine "Betty" "Lil" (Gould) Doyle, died on Monday, January 8, 2018 in Cambridge Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, at the age of 88.
Elizabeth was born in Somerville Massachusetts on August 17, 1929, the daughter of the late John J. and Katherine (Joyce) Gould of County Cork, Ireland. She graduated from St. John's High School in North Cambridge and the Hickox Secretarial School in Boston. She began working as a secretary in the Department of Agriculture in Boston and before her retirement had worked for over twenty-five years as the administrative secretary to the director of the Walter E. Fernald School in Waltham. An incredible cook and baker, she frequently made beautiful cakes for her nieces and nephews. Elizabeth was reverently devoted to her family and her faith and will be remembered for her sense of humor, patience, kindness, and willingness to help anyone in need. Betty frequently volunteered for the late Father Edward McDonough's "Healing and Restoration Ministry", and was loved by both family and anyone she touched.
She leaves her husband, Raymond J. Doyle Jr., and was loved by many nieces and nephews, including Katherine J. Darcy Hickson and her husband, Joseph M. Hickson Jr., of Hampden, Waltham City Councillor George A. Darcy III, John J. Gould and his wife Anne of Lake Forest, IL, Kathleen M. (Gould) White and her late husband James White of Woburn, Jody Gould of Lexington, Cheryl H. (Gould) Fraser of Duxbury, Kevin J. Gould and his wife Kathleen of Duxbury, Father Francis J. "Frank" Daly of Duxbury and the late Janice M. (Gould) Daly, as well as the late Joyce C. (Gould) Bittihoffer.
Betty was the twin sister of the late Janet M. Darcy (wife of the late George A. Darcy Jr.), as well as the sister of the late Ellen Gould, the late Edmond J. Gould (husband of the late Virginia Gould), and the late John H. Gould (husband of Margaret Gould).
Family and friends will honor, remember, and celebrate Elizabeth's life by gathering to visit in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Saturday, January 13th from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12:30 p.m. Private burial will take place at a later date .
