Framingham – Sr. Elizabeth C. Farragher, R.C.E., of Framingham, died Saturday, May 17, 2014 at Saint Patrick's Manor in Framingham. She was 91.
Sr. Elizabeth was born on September 29, 1922 in Brighton, the youngest of eight children born to the late David and Ellen (Lavelle) Farragher, both natives of Claremorris, County Mayo, Ireland. She was raised in Newton where she was a 1940 graduate of Our Lady Help of Christians High School. Four years later she received her bachelor's degree at Regis College in Weston. In 1951 Sr. Elizabeth earned a master's degree in education at Boston College.
She entered the Religious of Christian Education community in July, 1945 and professed her final vows at Marycliff Academy in Winchester on August 15, 1953. Sr. Elizabeth taught and held administrative positions at Marycliff Academy, Saint Genevieve of the Pines Academy in Asheville, North Carolina and at Jeanne d'Arc Academy in Milton.
Sr. Elizabeth later became Director of Continuing Education at Aquinas College in Newton and a professor at Massachusetts Bay Community College in Wellesley before retiring to Marie Convent in Newton.
She was a sister of the late Francis Farragher, Rev. J. Leo Farragher, S.S.J., Paul Farragher, Joseph Farragher, Margaret Farragher, Bernard Farragher and Helen Watson and leaves several nieces and her religious community of Religious of Christian Education.
Family and friends will honor and remember Sr. Elizabeth's life by gathering for calling hours on Friday morning, May 23rd from 8:30 until 10:45 a.m. in the Holy Family Chapel at Saint Patrick's Manor, 863 Central Street, Framingham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Saint Patrick's Cemetery, Watertown.
