Elizabeth F. Gallagher

Waltham - Mrs. Elizabeth F. (Murphy) Gallagher, of Waltham, died Monday, May 29, 2017 at the Parlin Hospice Residence in Wayland.

She was the beloved wife of the late Robert H. Gallagher and the daughter of the late Delia (Kearney) and Thomas Murphy. She was pre-deceased by her brothers Bernard Murphy, Capt. Thomas J. Murphy, USAAC, J. Joseph Murphy and M. Francis Murphy and her sisters Mary Ryan, A. Catherine Murphy, and Beatrice Burns.

A graduate of Waltham High School and an executive secretary at Raytheon for over thirty-five years, "Liz" was an active and concerned citizen of the city of Waltham. She was a devoted parishioner of Saint Mary's Church and a great supporter of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul charity drives for those in need. Anyone who met Liz knew her as a person of great character and integrity who enjoyed the company of her many family members and friends, a good mystery novel, and, of course, a Red Sox win.

Liz leaves behind stepdaughters, Kathleen Winarski and her husband, James, of Florida, Nancy Veiga and her husband, Stephen, of Ipswich and Mary Egerton of Franklin; her stepsons, Richard Gallagher of Walpole, Robert Gallagher and his wife, Carolyn, of Waltham, and Paul Gallagher, Philip Gallagher and his partner, Keith Laurent, Neal Gallagher and John Gallagher, all of Florida, Stephen Gallagher and his wife, Lilia, of Medway and William Gallagher and his wife, Melissa, of Hingham; nine step-grandchildren, Michael and Laura Gallagher of Waltham, Suzanne and Stephen Veiga of Ipswich, Teresa Egerton of Franklin, Stephanie and Meghan Gallagher of Medway, Heather and Rebecca Gallagher of Florida and two step great-grandchildren, Matthew Gallagher of Hudson and Annabelle Gallagher of Florida.

She was also the beloved aunt of Bernard G. Murphy of Wellesley, Jean Monaghan and her husband, Tom, of Waltham, Sheila Callahan and her husband, Joe, of Dorchester, Kevin Burns and his wife, Carol, of Reading, Tom Burns and his wife, Louise, of Wayland, Tom Ryan and his wife, Meg, of Florida, Kathy Denham of Woods Hole, Mike Ryan of Arizona, Jack Murphy and his wife, Kim, of New Hampshire, Carol Cachion and her husband, Bill, of Florida and several great nieces and nephews and several great-great nieces and nephews.

LIz was also the step-mother of the late Mark Gallagher of Waltham.

Family and friends will honor and remember Liz's life by gathering to visit on Thursday, June 1st at 8:30 a.m. in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main St. (Rte. 20), Waltham before leaving in procession to Saint Mary's Church, 133 School Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
