Elizabeth M. "Betty" Hayes

Waltham – Miss Elizabeth M. "Betty" Hayes, of Waltham, died Thursday, April 21, 2016 in her home. She was 86.

Betty was born in Boston on May 1, 1929, a daughter of the late Patrick and Gertrude (Tate) Hayes. She was raised in Cambridge where she graduated from Cambridge Rindge and Latin High School. She had lived in Watertown and Somerville before moving to Waltham over forty years ago.

Until her retirement she was a benefits adjuster for Commonwealth Energy, a place where she worked all of her professional life.

Betty is survived by her brother, Rev. Edward A. Hayes, M.M. of Tanzania and many nieces, nephews, and cousins and their families.

She was also the sister of the late Patrick W. Hayes, Charles J. Hayes, and Lawrence F. Hayes.

Family and friends will honor and remember Betty's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street, (Rte. 20), Waltham on Tuesday, May 3rd from 6 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Wednesday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary's Church, 133 School Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Benedict Cemetery, West Roxbury.
