Waltham – Mrs. Elizabeth M. (Gibson) Martin, of Waltham, died Sunday, April 22, 2018 at Courville at Nashua. She was 93.
Affectionately known by family and friends as "Betty", she was born in Carlton, New York on April 13, 1925, a daughter of the late Ernest and Harriet (Grimmer) Gibson. Following her marriage to Waltham native Joseph P. Martin the couple made Waltham their lifelong home. They enjoyed fifty-six happy years together before Joe's death on October 15, 2004.
For years Betty worked as a secretary for the Bausch and Lomb Company, the Waltham Farm Bureau and later for the Guaranty-First Bank in Waltham. Betty also belonged to Saint Mary's Mothers Club and to Saint Mary's Saint Vincent dePaul Society.
She leaves her children, Thomas C. Martin of Waltham, Mary E. Benner (Douglas) of Brunswick, Maine, Ann M. Martin of Estero, Florida, and Elizabeth J. Dunlop (Donald) of Nashua, New Hampshire; her grandchildren, Michelle Conrad (Claton), Eric Benner (Ashley), Todd Martin (Marta), Angela Zocchi and Danielle Dunlop; her great-grandchildren, Weston Benner, Jaxon Allard and Vera Martin and many nieces and nephews.
Betty was also the grandmother of the late Kristen Zocchi and sister of the late Ernest, Arthur and Edward Gibson and Ellen London.
Family and friends will honor and remember Betty's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Friday, April 27th from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary's Church, 133 School Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
