Waltham – Mrs. Elizabeth I. 'Betty' (Schmidt) Nocera, of Waltham, died Sunday, September 13, 2009 at her home following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's disease. She was 79. Betty was born in Boston on February 16, 1930, a daughter of the late Harold O. and Elizabeth V. (Stanton) Schmidt, and had lived in Waltham for most of her life. She graduated from Waltham High School in 1949. In addition to caring for her husband and seven children, Betty was a member of the Waltham Junior Women's Club, the Waltham Jaycee-ette's and the Waltham Garden Club. She leaves her husband of 57 years, Louis J. Nocera; her children, Joseph L. Nocera and his wife, Jeanne, of Waltham, James P. Nocera and his wife, Lynda, of Weston, John H. Nocera and his wife, Susan, of Bedford, Jeffrey R. Nocera and his wife, Susan, of Westwood, Linda E. Jacobs and her husband, Paul, Jerome E. Nocera and his wife, Chrisann, and Jason R. Nocera and Carrie Murphy, all of Waltham; her grandchildren, Corey, Nicole, Kyle, Brian, Devon, Nicklas, Julina, Derek, Sean, Michelle, Leah, and Amanda Nocera, Justina and Victoria Jacobs and Jake Kinsman; her sister, Phyllis Cormier of Waltham; her sister and brother-in-law, Marianne and Scott Skerry of West Palm Beach, Florida and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends will honor and remember Betty's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Thursday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary's Church, 133 School Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Vincent dePaul Society, c/o Saint Mary's Church, 133 School Street, Waltham, MA 02451.
