Elizabeth R. 'Libby' O'Neil

Mrs. Elizabeth R. (Stankard) O'Neil, of Waltham, died Monday, October 1, 2018. She was 94.

Elizabeth, lovingly known to family and friends as 'Libby' was born February 13, 1924 in Waltham the only child of the late Thomas and Alice (Mannion) Stankard. Raised and educated in Waltham she was a graduate of St. Mary's High School with the class of 1941. She married Watertown native Robert E. O'Neil on April 17, 1955 in Saint Mary's Church and they made Waltham their home for many years before moving to Mashpee in 1991. They returned to live in Waltham in 2009 and after 57 years of marriage Bob died on March 31, 2012.

Libby was always social by nature she loved the company of her family, friends and the many pets who were part of her homes throughout her life. She kept close with her friends from St. Mary's High School and Cape Cod and of late her fellow residents at The Leland Home. She kept her mind active with a love for reading and daily crossword puzzles.

She leaves her children, Ellen M. Foley (Jack) of Waltham, Stephen T. O'Neil (Doreen) of Shrewsbury, Robert E. O'Neil, Jr. (Patricia) of Ashland and Mark D. O'Neil (Stephanie) of Waltham; her grandchildren John (Katy) and Derek (Kerri) Foley, Chad, Brooke, Connor, Alex, Madeline, Janice and Mark O'Neil, Jr.; her great grandchildren Kalyse, Mac, Skyler & Camden; her brothers and sisters-in-law Edward O'Neil of Beverly, David O'Neil and his wife, Karen, of FL, Brian O'Neil of Waltham, Sarah Alexson of Mashpee; also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will honor and remember Libby's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Thursday, October 4th from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Friday morning where her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
