Waltham – It was fitting that God called Libby Renkas home on August 15, 2015 . . . the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
For the past many years Libby lived literally and figuratively in the shadow of Saint Mary's Church, her spiritual home since birth, and the place where her faith and her friendships were nourished. She was eighty-four when she died last Saturday at Maristhill Nursing Home in Waltham. Libby was so devoted to attendance at daily Mass that she asked that when she went her funeral mass be celebrated at that time . . . and so it will be.
Elizabeth N. 'Libby' Renkas was born in Waltham on September 3, 1930, a daughter of the late George and Nellie (Gadzina) Renkas, and had been a lifelong resident. She was a graduate of Saint Mary's High School in Waltham and Burdett College in Boston.
Until her retirement she worked at Waltham Savings Bank which later became Sterling Bank. Before that she worked for a number of years at Davidson Fan Company. Libby was also a member of the Waltham Council on Aging.
Libby leaves her nephews and nieces, Robert Gallagher, Michael Renkas and Donald Renkas, all of New Hampshire, Robert Renkas of South Carolina, Richard Renkas of Franklin, and Ellen and June Gallagher, both of Marlborough; several grandnieces and grandnephews and the family of her late dear friend, Joan (Healey) Kershner, of Waltham.
She was a sister of the late Joseph J. Renkas, Walter J. Renkas and Mary E. Gallagher and aunt of the late Donald Renkas.
Family and friends will honor and remember Libby's life by gathering for her Funeral Mass in Saint Mary's Church, 133 School Street, Waltham on Friday, August 21st at 12:10 p.m. Burial will be private.
