Ellen E. Bowen

Waltham- Mrs. Ellen E. (Cross) Bowen of Waltham died Monday February 23rd, 2004 in Massachusetts General Hospital. She was 79. Born in South Acton, a daughter of the late Lewis and Emily (MacKay) Cross, Mrs. Bowen was a Bookeeper for many years at Brandeis University in Waltham before her retirement in 1991. Mrs. Bowen was very active at the First Presbyterian Church in Waltham as well as a former member of the church choir, Hovey Players in Waltham, the American Red Cross, and she enjoyed ceramics, music, and reading. Mrs. Bowen was the wife of the late Ralph J. Bowen Jr, mother of the late Arthur F. Bowen, and sister of the late Bruce MacKay. She is survived by her children, Ralph J. Bowen, III of Brookline, William S. Bowen of Brockton, Lela A. Smart of Natick, and David L. Bowen of Danvers, five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in the Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street, (Rte.20), Waltham. Burial will be in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham. Visiting hours Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Memorial donation’s may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen Street, Framingham Ma 01701.
