Waltham – Mrs. Elsie M. (Morrison) Howe, of Waltham, died Friday, May 3, 2013 in the Leland Home, Waltham. She was 98.
Elsie was born in St. John, New Brunswick on June 11, 1914, a daughter of the late Harold and Florence (Buckley) Morrison. She lived in St. John until the age of eleven when her family moved to Waltham where she had been a resident since.
After graduating from Waltham High School she earned a degree in nursing. Elsie was on the Board of Managers at the Leland Home for a number of years and was a longtime member of the Piety Corner Club. She and her family were lifetime member of Beth Eden Baptist Church in Waltham.
After her children were grown she worked as a pre-school teacher at Green Acres Nursery School in Waltham. She also spent many years volunteering at the thrift shop at Waltham Hospital. Elsie was also a hands on crafter who enjoyed braiding and hooking rugs, restoring furniture, gardening and reading.
The wife of the late Herbert F. Howe, she leaves her son H. Ronald Howe of Danville, New Hampshire and her daughter, C. Cynthia Gorman of Oakton, Virginia; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was also the sister of the late Ruth Viscolosi.
Family and friends will honor and remember Elsie's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Thursday, May 9th from 4 to 8 p.m. and again on Friday morning in Beth Eden Baptist Church, 84 Maple Street, Waltham where her Funeral Service will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Wadsworth Cemetery, Sudbury.
