Emily A. Kane

September 10, 1963 — March 23, 2017

Emily Kane's admirable and well fought fight with a rare cancer came to its end on Thursday, March 23, 2017. She died peacefully in the company of her family. She was 53.

Born in Brighton on September 10, 1963 she is the daughter of Feliciano and Giustina (Persechini) DiMascio. A graduate of the former Our Lady of the Presentation High School in Brighton she also earned her associates degree from Boston Business School. She married Newton native, Brian M. Kane on September 27, 1986 in St. Columbkille's Church in her native Brighton. It is well known that those of Irish and Italian heritage make good couples and as a result . . . good families! 'Good company . . . good food and wine can make good people' said Shakespeare. Emily's life was always centered around her family. Life took them to Waltham over 20 years ago and they became entrenched in the community they very much love.

For over 15 years she worked in the human resource department at Boston College. It wasn't just work but rather a job she loved and looked forward to each day. Its environment was rich with good friends and a community who wrapped their arms around her when she was diagnosed with Thymic Carcinoma twelve years ago.

Active and involved in the activities of her three children she enthusiastically boasted to be a proud hockey and marathon mom and supporter of her son's music endeavors. She was their number one fan and faithful cheerleader. Sunday dinners at her parents home with the great cooking of her mother and the presence of her family are memories treasured even more now.

St. Augustine said "Faith is to believe what you do not see; the reward of this faith is to see what you believe." Emily's faith guided and sustained her throughout her life and especially during her illness. Whether Mass at Saint Ignatius while at Boston College or in her home parish of Our Lady's in Waltham the Church provided her a place to pause, pray and continue to place her trust in God. And now we trust . . . and pray that Emily knows God's peace.

In addition to her husband of 30 years, Brian, she leaves their children, Justine J. Kane of Boston, Alexander M. Kane and Matthew P. Kane of Waltham; her parents, Feliciano and Giustina DiMascio of Waltham; her brother, Dino DiMascio and his wife, Ann, of Waltham; her father and mother in-law, Donald and Judith (Madden) Kane of Newton; in-laws Donna Vona and her husband, Stephen, of Newton, Sharon DiCicco and husband,Tony, of Waltham and Michael Kane of Northborough; her nephews and nieces, Michael and Samantha DiMascio, Stephanie and Ryan Vona, Stephen and Scott DiCicco and Emily and Jessica Kane and many aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends.

Family and friends will honor and remember Emily's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Sunday March 26th from 2 to 6 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Monday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Newton Cemetery.
