Engeline (Hirschmann) Koepper

April 11, 1938 — January 19, 2025

Belmont, MA

Belmont - Mrs. Engeline (Hirschmann) Koepper, a longtime resident of the Cleveland, Ohio area, died Sunday. January 19, 2025, in Belmont Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. She was 86.

Born on April 11, 1938, in Kulm, Bessarabia (now Ukraine) she was a daughter of the late Gottleib and Salome (née Graumann) Hirschmann.

Her childhood was heavily molded by displacement while fleeing the horrors of war.

She immigrated to the United States of America with her family at age 14, beginning a new life and culture in Chicago. With determination and dedication, she was educated and earned her bachelor’s degree from Cleveland State University and then her Juris Doctorate from CSU College of Law.

Engeline was a successful attorney and partner in her law firm (Ticktin, Baron, Koepper & Co., L.P.A.) and worked many years until enjoying retirement in Painesville, Ohio before moving to Boston to be closer to her son.

She was a long-time member of The Suburban Ski Club in Cleveland and enjoyed countless ski trips across the country and abroad. She was active in German cultural activities and her family had a long tradition of Christmas at Friedel and Heinz's House in Chicago. Engeline loved all kinds of good food and always had plenty of her own homemade applesauce and fruit jams in the freezer. And a memory to be treasured forever by her family is her signature wish "good night, sleep tight"!

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Bruce W. Eckstein and her son, Ronald Koepper and older sister, Elfriede Taube (nee Hirschmann, husband Heinrich).

She leaves her brother, Rudolf Hirschmann (wife Sirilak) of Los Angeles; her son, Mark Koepper of Waltham; her grandson, Aaron Koepper (wife Hannah) of Somerville; her niece Heike Taube of Minocqua, WI; her grand-nephew, Jonathan Pace (wife Elizabeth and daughter Lucy) of Waltham; her grand-niece, Joanna Kilpatrick (nee Pace, husband Andrew and son Jack) of the Minneapolis area.

Family and friends will honor and remember Engeline’s life by gathering for Visitation on Wednesday, February 5th from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street, (Rte. 20) Waltham followed by her Memorial Service at 5:00 p.m. Burial is private.
