Waltham – Miss Esther F. Landry, of Waltham, died Tuesday, August 9, 2016 in her home. She was 90.
Esther was born in Watertown on April 9, 1926, a daughter of the late Charles and Mary (Gingrass) Landry, and was a graduate of Saint Patrick's High School in Watertown. She moved to Waltham in 1971
Until her retirement she worked as a manager for John Hancock Life Insurance Company in Boston.
Always on the go and youthful in spirit and appearance Esther volunteered for years for Waltham's Meals on Wheels program and for over twenty years she swam at the Waltham Boys and Girls Club. Up until June of this year she could be found driving her sporty silver Ford Mustang convertible.
She loved the beach and the ocean and she loved dogs and cats who needed to be rescued and who found a sympathetic caretaker and a home with Esther.
She leaves her sister, Regina Short of Burlington and many nieces, nephews and their families.
Esther was also a sister of the late Irene Higgins, Angelina Usseglio, Theresa Silvio, Gladys Stuhre, Ruth Coleman and Rita McDonald.
Family and friends will honor and remember Esther's life by gathering to visit at 10 a.m. on Monday, August 15th in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham before leaving in procession to Saint Jude Church, 147 Main Street, Waltham, where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Saint Patrick's Cemetery, Watertown.
