Ethel C. (Piette) Eckland, of Waltham, died at home on Saturday, November 6, 2021. She was 94.
She was born on September 3, 1927 in Oxford a daughter of the late Antonio and Lillian (Austin) Piette. Raised and educated in Oxford she lived in Waltham since 1956. She married William J. Eckland on August 27, 1949 in the Cathedral of Saint Paul in Worcester. Bill died on October 8, 2008.
Ethel worked in the offices of the former Little Brown Publishing Company for many years. She treasured most the time spent with family and friends and in earlier years was an avid ice-skater.
She leaves her children, Donna Marie McCarthy of East Boston and James W. Eckland (late Melva) of Gilford, New Hampshire; grandmother of Kenneth T. Eckland, Michael J. McCarthy (Deirdre Kenny), Sean M. McCarthy (Daisy), Colleen A. McCarthy (Kevin Wyrocki), Christopher T. McCarthy (Onye Rheume), Michelle E. Doherty (James); great-grandmother of Michaela, Malakai, Liam, Luka, Max, Scarlett, Gabriel, Noah, Kayliana, Sawyer, Landon, Ryan, Olivia, Jamie and Addison; sister of Joseph Piette of Sierra Vista, Arizona and the late Clarence Piette, Archie Piette, Bertha Galkowski, Elizabeth Carelli, Rita Jones, Irene McKenzie and Doris Moon; also survived by many nieces & nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Ethel's life by gathering for calling hours at The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Wednesday, November 10th from 4 to 7 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Thursday before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham where her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
