Waltham - Mr. Eugene H. Canty, of Waltham, died on May 29, 2013 at Wayside Hospice in Wayland. He was 80.
Gene was born in Brookline on January 9, 1933, a son of the late Ann (Herbert) and John Paul Canty, Jr. He worked as a technician for thirty-eight years at the Polaroid Corporation in Waltham, where he was affectionately known as 'Herbie', before retiring a number of years ago.
He enjoyed watching the History Channel and loved to read anything related to the military. His love of military history grew from the time he spent as a United States Marine during the Korean War. He loved to travel with his beloved wife Natalie. They had taken a river cruise through Europe and also enjoyed spending winters together in their Aruba timeshare. He loved to garden and was often found out in the yard.
Gene leaves his wife, Natalie Burke-Canty; his children, Catherine Hollander and her husband, David, of Dennis, Eugene Canty, Jr. and his wife, Robin, of Waltham and Susan Canty of Jamaica Plain; his grandchildren, Robert and Bonnie Hollander and Kristina and Kimberley Canty; his brother Charles Canty and his wife, Yvonne, of Atlanta, Georgia; his sister-in-law Ming Canty of New Jersey; one great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
He was also the brother of the late John Paul Canty.
Family and friends will honor and remember Eugene's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham, on Sunday, June 2nd from 3 – 7 p.m. and again on Monday morning at 11 a.m. in Christ Church, 750 Main St., Waltham, where his funeral service will be held. Burial will be private.
