Waltham - Mrs. Eugenia A. 'Jean' FitzGerald, of Waltham, formerly of Albany, New York, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Tuesday, August 29, 2017. She was born in Albany on September 7, 1921, the only child of Eugene and Elizabeth (Finn) Cox.
Jean taught English as a Second Language in the Waltham School District for many years. She delighted in the accomplishments and exploits of her students and valued her many friends at Friday "Bookclub." She was an avid traveler, one of her favorite adventures was her trip to Turkey at age 80. She was strong, a steadfast friend and mother, the life of any party and will be missed by many.
She was predeceased by her husband, James T. FitzGerald and her son Eugene FitzGerald and is survived by her loving children, Michael T. FitzGerald and his wife, Judith Roberts, of Hingham, Michelle J. FitzGerald of Waltham, James E. FitzGerald and his wife, Elaine McDonald, of Cranston, Rhode Island, Gabrielle FitzGerald of Waltham and Richelle A. FitzGerald of Bristol, Rhode Island. Jean also doted on her four grandchildren, Sarah, Elizabeth, Megan and Christopher, who loved their GJ and knew they could always count on her for support and good humor. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Jean's life by gathering to visit at Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham on Tuesday September 5, 2017 at 9 a.m. followed by her Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Holyhood Cemetery, Brookline.
