Waltham – Mr. Felix G. 'Phil' Taranto, of Waltham died Saturday, November 19, 2011 at Epoch of Weston. He was 87.
Phil was born in Waltham on January 23, 1924, a son of the late Onofrio and Maria (Picone) Taranto and had been a lifelong resident. During a 42 year career with the A&P Stores he was in charge of their dairy department. After that Phil went to work for the Guaranty Trust Bank in Waltham for several years. He was a lifetime member of Sacred Heart Parish in Waltham where he belonged to the Holy Name Society and served as an usher for more than fifty years.
He was a member of Waltham's Dante Alighieri Lodge #648, Sons of Italy in America and the Filicudi Society. In addition to spending time with his family, Phil enjoyed bowling, traveling and gardening around his home.
He leaves his wife of 59 years, Myra (Cole) Taranto; his children, Paul G. Taranto of Sudbury, David M. Taranto and his wife, Deborah, of Brockton, Patricia J. Pzegeo and her husband, James, of Andover and Janet E. Goodale of Bradford; his grandchildren, Jason Taranto, Stephen Taranto and his wife, Kelly, Rachael Duquette and her husband, Marc, Matthew Goodale, Kim Pzegeo and Lauren Pike; his great-grandchildren, Kierah Duquette and Camron Taranto; his sister, Elizabeth York of Rhode Island; his sister-in-law, Irene Cole of Waltham; and several nieces and nephews.
Phil was also a brother of the late Thomas Taranto, James Taranto, Joseph Taranto, Mary Manni and Angela Raimondi.
Family and friends will honor and remember Phil's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Tuesday, November 22nd, from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 10 a.m. on Wednesday morning before leaving in procession to Sacred Heart Church, 311 River Street, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
