Waltham – Mrs. Flora E. (Gray) Wiggin, of Waltham, died Friday, September 7, 2012 at her home. She was 83.
Flora was born in Waltham on September 21, 1928, a daughter of the late F. Maynard and Clara (Warner) Gray, and had been a lifelong resident. She was a 1946 graduate of Waltham High School and earned an associate's degree at Middlesex Community College.
In addition to raising her family, Flora worked for a number of years as a medical secretary at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge and at Waltham Hospital. She was a talented seamstress and known for her skill at making and painting a collection of porcelain dolls. Flora was a longtime member of First Congregational Church which later became Trinity Church in Waltham. She and her family spent many happy summers at their home in Ocean Park, Maine and in later years wintering in Florida.
One of the most poignant remembrances of Flora came from a friend of long ago . . . "Flora was a beautiful woman, inside and out. She always had a smile and kind word." . . . friends, new and old, share the common bond of that experience with her.
She leaves her husband of 61 years, William F. Wiggin; her children, Donald M. Wiggin and his wife, Mary, of Saco, Maine and Janice M. Wiggin of Goffstown, New Hampshire; her grandchildren, Cheri, Ben and Molly Wiggin; her brother and sister, Frank Gray of Old Orchard Beach, Maine and Dorothy M. Elliot of Waltham and her nieces and nephews.
Flora was also the mother of the late William F. Wiggin, Jr. and Andrew F. Wiggin and a sister of the late Robert Gray.
Family and friends will honor and remember Flora's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Monday, September 10th, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and again on Tuesday morning in Trinity Church, 730 Main Street, Waltham where her Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. Burial will be private.
