Watertown - Mrs. Frances B. (Bensing) Schmitt, of Watertown, died Friday, October 24, 2014 in Saint Patrick's Manor in Framingham. She was 96.
Frances was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, on September 10, 1918, a daughter of the late Lloyd and Helen (Roden) (Schmitt) Felker. She lived in Watertown for over forty years before moving to the Scandinavian Living Center in West Newton where she lived for seven years. She moved to Saint Patrick's Manor six months ago.
Frances was a longtime member and a former president of the South Side Senior Citizens Club in Waltham.
She was the wife of the late John H. Schmitt, the mother of the late John F. "Jack" Schmitt and his wife, Judith, and the grandmother of the late John F. Schmitt, Jr.
Frances is survived by her granddaughter, Barbra A. Thomas and her husband, Jack, of Wellesley, her godchild, Suzanne Hopkins McDonough of Framingham, and her great-grandchildren, Rebecca Audette, and Jack, Michael, and Lauren Thomas.
Family and friends will honor and remember Frances' life by gathering to visit on Friday, October 31st, at 9:30 am in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street, (Rte. 20), Waltham where her Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 am. Burial will follow in Ridgelawn Cemetery in Watertown.
