Waltham – Mr. Francis Loring Dagle, of Waltham, died Thursday, August 6, 2015 at his home. He was 85.
Francis was born in Watertown on December 26, 1930, a son of the late Charles and M. Lauretta (Peters) Dagle, and had been a lifelong Waltham resident. He was a graduate of Waltham High School and served with the Massachusetts Army National Guard before joining the United States Navy at the outbreak of the Korean War.
Trained as an airplane electronics specialist he served overseas for three and half years, mainly aboard the Essex class carrier USS Lake Champlain (CVA 39), before his discharge in 1954. Shortly after that Francis began a forty year career as an electronics engineer for the Raytheon Company, spending most of that time at the engineering division in Sudbury.
Francis was a member of the PFC John M. Sullivan USMC Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 10334 in Waltham, the Vittori-Rocci Italian-American War Veterans Post No. 56 in Beverly, the USS Lake Champlain Association, the U.S. Navy Gladiators Association and the Association of Raytheon Retirees.
The husband of the late Marguerite M. (Mobilia) Dagle he leaves his children, Francis L. Dagle, Jr. of Westford, Anne Marie Schreiter and her husband, Bill, of Bradford and Stephen M. Dagle and his wife, Wendy, of Sharon; his grandchildren, Francis L. Dagle, III, Katharine F. Dagle, Jacqueline F. Dagle, Nicole M. Schreiter, Leanne M. Schreiter, Zachary T. Dagle and Alicia B. Dagle and many nieces and nephews.
Francis was also a brother of the late Clifford R. Dagle and R. Irving Dagle.
Family and friends will honor and remember Francis' life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Wednesday, August 12th from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Thursday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
