Francis L. Reade

Waltham - Mr. Francis L. Reade, Jr., of Waltham, died Thursday, January 4, 2007 in Newton-Wellesley Hospital. He was 85. Born in Waltham, a son of the late Francis L. and Katherine L. (Cahill) Reade, he had been a lifelong resident. Frank worked for many years for the City of Waltham, most recently as chairman of the Board of Assessors, retiring in1991. He was a graduate of Saint Mary’s High School Class of 1939 and of Boston College, Class of 1943. During World War II, he served with the United States Army Air Corps. He had been a member and Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, Waltham Council # 147, a member of the Joseph F. Hill American Legion Post # 156, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 2152, both in Waltham. He was also an avid sports fan. He was the husband of the late Doris M. (Ricker) Reade, father of the late Kevin Reade, grandfather of the late Richard Gill, and brother of the late Lawrence K. Reade and Jacqueline L. Cunniffe. Frank leaves his children, Michael T. Reade and his wife, Greta, of Southfield, Michigan, Christine M. Reade, Deirdre J. Reade and her husband, Edward Boudreau, all of Waltham; one brother, Arthur Reade of Beverly; one sister, Miriam A. Linihan of Waltham, his grandchildren; Michael, Janice, and Corin, two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. The Funeral will be held Tuesday at 9 a.m. from The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte.20), Waltham followed by Funeral Mass in Saint Mary’s Church, 133 School Street, Waltham at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham. Visiting hours will be held Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the New England Shelter for Homeless Veterans, Dept. V, 17 Court Street, Boston, MA 02108 or to Saint Mary’s Church, 133 School Street, Waltham, MA 02451.
