Weston - Francis J. 'Frank' Sullivan Jr., M.D., of Weston died unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 while working at home in his gardens. He was 73.
Frank was born September 16, 1940 in East Boston into a family with roots in Nova Scotia, where he returned to spend many happy summers. He was the son of the late Francis J. and Violet (Nickerson) Sullivan.
After graduating from Boston English High School and Boston University in 1963, he earned his medical degree from Tufts University in 1967.
He was proud of his military service attending to the badly wounded during the Vietnam War.
After completing residency at Massachusetts General Hospital, he moved to St. Elizabeth's Hospital as a radiologist.
In 1964, he married Cynthia E. (Roberts) Sullivan who predeceased him in on February 29, 1996. He was devoted to her and his greatest delight was in his three children and their growing families.
In later years he especially loved working in his garden at his home in Weston, particularly among his daylilies, hosta and wildflowers.
He was an avid reader, loved watching the birds in the garden, and listening to classical music. His second home in Kittery, Maine, which he planned and built himself, was a great pleasure to him.
Frank was an active member of Trinity Church in Boston; his deep and abiding faith was evident in all he did. He was known for his curiosity, friendliness, and quiet acceptance of everyone he encountered. His sense of humor and innate optimism overcame his struggles, and he strove for simplicity in his life.
He leaves his daughter, Sarah and her wife, Lauren Meade, his son, John and his wife, Shu Li, and his youngest, Bethany and her husband, Martin Hughes and grandchildren Madison, Reed, Zach, Josie, Jamey, Judson, Mark, and David. He also leaves his loving companion Lynne Jones.
