Frank J. Kortenkaemper

July 17, 1938 — August 24, 2018

Mr. Frank J. Kortenkaemper, of Waltham, died on Friday, August 24, 2018 in Newton-Wellesley Hospital. He was 80.

Frank was born in Hiltrup, Germany a son of the late Frank Josef and Gertrude Auguste (Zudrop) Kortenkaemper. Raised and educated in Germany he immigrated to the United States in 1960 settling in Waltham.

Before retiring, Frank worked as a bricklayer for 42 years with the Bricklayers and Allied Craftsmen Local 3 after completing his apprenticeship in Germany. Among the many jobs he was proud of was his work on John Joseph Moakley United States Courthouse in Boston. 

His hobbies included gardening, fishing, hunting and hanging out with his buddies at the American Foreign Legion post #156 and the Boylston Schul-Verein where he had his first job as a bartender when he first arrived in the United States.

He leaves his wife of 47 years, Maureen (Griffin) Kortenkaemper; his son, Frank J. Kortenkaemper and his wife, Heather living in Needham; his granddaughter Anna Rose Kortenkaemper.

Other family members living include his sister Hilda Kruger and nephew Ralph Kruger and niece Veronica Kruger.

Family and friends will honor and remember Frank's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Tuesday, August 28th from 6 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Wednesday morning before leaving in procession to The Blessed Sacrament Chapel of Saint Charles Borromeo Church, 51 Hall Street, where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery.
