Waltham – Mr. Frank P. "Fotios" Lambros, of Waltham, died Sunday, September 7, 2014 in the Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford. He was 92.
Frank was born in Clinton on August 1, 1922, a son of the late Peter Frank and Angela (Geranios) Lambros. When he was twelve the family moved to Cambridge where he was a 1941 graduate of Cambridge Rindge Technical High School. He was an accomplished violinist and the first violinist in his high school orchestra. Frank was proud of his Greek heritage and spoke the language fluently.
During World War II he served with the United States Coast Guard.
In 1948, Frank married Vicki Diplari and they lived in Boston and Cambridge before moving to Waltham in 1959. They were married for thirty-three years until Vicki's death in 1981.
Frank enjoyed a fifty year career as the owner of Franks Rolling Canteen which proudly touted the slogan, "Food At Its Best". He was well known at the Raytheon Gate 4 stop in Waltham. Frank also played the fiddle for The Roundup Buckaroos, a country western band that played in the Cambridge and Boston area.
Frank is survived by his wife of thirty years, Rowena Palmer; his step-daughter, Linda Griffin of Waltham; his children, James "Jim" Lambros and his wife, Linda Corcoran, of New York, New York, Angela Faylor and her husband, Christopher, of Wakefield and Charles "Chuck" Lambros and his wife, Stephanie, of Chelmsford; his grandchildren, Lauren Faylor, Peter Faylor, James Lambros, Alexa Lambros and Sabrina Lambros.
He was the brother of the late James Lambros, Alice Erines, and Gregory Lambros.
Family and friends will honor and remember Frank's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham, on Thursday, September 11th from 6 to 8 p.m. and again at 10 a.m. on Friday morning where his funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
