Waltham – Mr. Fred W. Hamilton, of Waltham, died Wednesday, October 15, 2008 at Kindred Hospital, Boston. He was 78. Born and raised in Waltham, a son of the late Fred W. and Ruth I. (Campbell) Hamilton, he was a lifelong resident. Fred graduated from Waltham High School in 1947 and attended Wentworth Institute. After that he served with the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Until his retirement Fred worked for many years at GlaxoSmith Kline in Waltham where he was a master electrician and later became plant manager. He was a member of the Waltham Triad Lodge A.F. & A.M., the Aleppo Shriners, the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Boston and the Air Force Association. He also belonged to the American Radio Relay League, the national association for amateur radio operators, and its Boston affiliate, where he was known as W1/FWH. Fred leaves his wife of fifty-seven years, Lois (Milligan) Hamilton; his children, Steven A. Hamilton and his wife, Nancy, of Waltham and Gary W. Hamilton and his wife, Kari, of Hudson; his grandchildren, Courtney Hizy and Ryan Hamilton; his cousin, Evelyn Sarjeant of Weymouth and many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Fred's Funeral Service on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte.20), Waltham. Burial will be in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham. Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Boston Shriners Hospital, 51 Blossom Street, Boston, MA 02114.
