Waltham – Mr. Frederick N. 'Fred' Ansara, of Waltham, died Saturday, June 14, 2008 at Mount Auburn Hospital, Cambridge. He was 83. Born in Lawrence, a son of the late Abraham and Selma (Salina) Ansara, Fred was a lifelong resident of Waltham. During World War II, he served with the United States Navy and he was a self-employed furniture upholsterer in Needham for more than fifty years. He loved to sing, and had been a member of the Barber Shop Quartet and Chorus in Waltham and in surrounding towns. He enjoyed golfing, gardening, baseball and spending time with his family. In his later years, Fred looked forward to seeing his buddies and playing weekly poker games at the Stanley Senior Center in Waltham. The husband of the late Elinor M. (Corey) Ansara, he leaves his children, Nicholas J. Ansara of Ayer, Susan M. McCarthy and her husband, Cal, of Waltham, Lisa J. Doherty and her husband, Frank, of Westford, and Brian D. Ansara of Chelmsford; his grandchildren, Darlene, Christine and Callaghan McCarthy and Sheila and Stacey Doherty; two brothers, Ernest Ansara of Arizona and James Ansara of Connecticut and several nieces and nephews. He was also a brother of the late Lena St. Onge, Charles Ansara, Carroll Ansara and Joseph Ansara. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Fred's Funeral Service at 11 a.m. Wednesday in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham. Visiting hours are Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Chronic Disease Fund, 10880 John W.
