Waltham – Mr. Frederick G. Baxter, formerly of Waltham, passed away on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at his home in Kissimmee, Florida. He was 87.
Frederick was born in Somerville, on November 5, 1927, a son of the late Ora and Elizabeth (Queenan) Baxter. He spent his early years in Somerville and later moved to Waltham, where he graduated from Waltham High School in 1946.
During the Korean War, Frederick served as a radio operator with the United States Army defending villages. After his time in the service, he worked for the Department of Defense as a Technical Representative working on recovery missions. Once he returned back to Waltham, he worked as an engineer for Codex, which was eventually acquired by Motorola which is where he retired from. Following retirement, Frederick and his wife of 65 years Marie (Woodward) Baxter, sold their home in Waltham, and purchased a summer home in Ossipee, New Hampshire, and a winter home in Kissimmee, Florida.
Being an outdoorsman, Frederick would spend free time hunting deer, tracking, and camping. He loved to dance which he continued to do, to "peg of my heart", with his loving wife Marie.
In addition to his wife Marie, he leaves his children, Marie Salig and her husband, Ronald, of Grafton, Patricia Reardon and her husband, Steve, of Bethlehem, NH, Elizabeth Ferrick and her husband Thomas of Westminster, Kevin Baxter and his wife Daisy of Dracut, and the late Frederick Baxter; his grandchildren, Jeremy and Eric Salig, Ross and Rachel Baxter, Alicia and Elayna Ferrick; his sister Mary Murphy of New Hampshire, and nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Frederick's life by gathering to visit at 10 am on Friday, October 23rd, in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street, (Rte. 20), Waltham, where his Funeral Service will be held at 11 am.
